About us
The Mansfield Wind Symphony is an all-volunteer group of accomplished musicians committed to the highest standard of excellence. By providing a scheduled season, as well as being available for commissioned concerts, we bring the community of Mansfield, Texas, and the surrounding area a rich cultural resource.

Formation
The Mansfield Wind Symphony (MWS) was formed during a casual get together over a cup of coffee in June, 2003. Summer planning sessions and recruitment led to the first rehearsal of the Mansfield Wind Symphony, on August 26, 2003, with over 50 musicians present.
Our inaugural concert was performed in the Rose Garden at Katherine Rose Park in conjunction with the Mansfield Hometown Festival of September, 2003. Other concerts have included: Starlight series at Dallas Fair Park, Mavericks game, Ranger s game opening, and two CDs.
The Symphony has close ties with Mansfield Independent School District. In fact our Musical Director and many members of the Symphony teach at Mansfield ISD. And we have been rehearsing at Mansfield High School since the summer of 2005.
This fall Walnut Ridge Baptist Church has generously agreed to provide us with our newest rehearsal venue.
We currently have approximately 70 members, many of whom hold degrees in music. Many more are professionals in non-musical careers. MWS musicians volunteer their time and services, rehearsing once a week for ten months of the year.
John Julian became Musical Director in the spring of 2004.
The Symphony is a versatile organization. It is a multi-faceted wind symphony which has spawned smaller ensembles: a brass band, a woodwind quintet, and the newly formed the Mansfield Jazz Orchestra. The symphony's repertoire is all encompassing, ranging from the classical to the whimsical, from rousing marches and fiery overtures, to gently descriptive pieces and hymns, from the operas of Rossini to the show tunes of Broadway.
In the spring of 2005, the Symphony sponsored its first annual Mansfield Wind Symphony Young Artist Scholarship Contest, awarding scholarships to three local outstanding Mansfield Independent School District high school musicians. We added a Middle School Scholarship Contest in the spring of 2006.
